Part of bringing the pageant back to Atlantic City meant bringing back some of the traditions that were lost when it moved to Las Vegas. One of these great traditions is the Show Us Your Shoes Parade.

Each state was able to design a pair of shoes, or decorate a pair they already have, to fit a theme of costume representing their state in some way. It was very exciting to see which direction each state went. My personal favorites were Idaho and New Jersey. Idaho wore a potato sack and had little potatoes on her shoes! New Jersey was a beautiful mermaid, and instead of shoes she had flippers like a fin. She was in character and it was wonderful.

Thankfully, despite my battery dying at the very first float, Carrie was able to snap a picture of nearly every single float! She was so excited to see some of the titleholders that some are blurry, but they are simply great proof of the level of excitement that was at this parade.

I couldn’t help but laugh when the Catalina Swimwear float came buy. The model in the one piece screamed “We match” at me. I didn’t know this but Carrie had snapped a picture of that very moment.

[…] Before we knew it, it was time for the Show Us Your Shoes Parade. We settled down in our seats, but not before running into Janet and Kathleen (of the Miss Empire Rose/Empire Star Program), and the entire Miss Massachusetts Board. Carrie even got a Miss Mass teeshirt and pin to wear during the parade. Read more about the parade, here. […]
