As the days tick by and the Miss New York state competition rapidly approaches, the complete Class of 2015 met for the first time for the Orientation in Saratoga Springs, NY during the Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen pageant weekend.
The weekend was packed full of appearances and preparations, and of course tasty food. How better to get to know your state sisters.
After the initial meet and greet, the ladies in crowns were swept off to the Capitol Building for a tour. Titleholders were able to see where their local legislators listen to and vote on laws, and for some of them- this very well could be a future place of employment.
Next, they had planned to visit Albany Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, thanks to New York’s extended weather and flu season, this visit had to be cancelled. Instead, the ladies made cards for the kids, and attached them to puzzles. These care packages would be delivered to the kids, and still bring smiles to their faces.
The first day finished with dinner at Prime at Saratoga National, a premier Mazzone property.
The second day started off with hard work, as the titleholders met up for the Contestant Order Lottery and Opening Number rehearsal.
There is a lot of superstition surrounding placement order. Some people shoot for their lucky number. Others want a place at the beginning of the line, to set the bar high. Others want a place at the end of the line, thinking judges will “save points” for the last girl. This is all superstition, but for some it is still a big deal.
The preliminaries will take place Thursday and Friday, with half of the contestants (Blue Group) participating in Talent and On-Stage Question on Thursday and Swimwear and Evening Gown on Friday, while the other half (Gold Group) will compete in Swimwear and Evening Gown Thursday, and wait to compete in Talent and On-Stage Question on Friday.
We won’t know the order until June, so cross your fingers and rub your rabbit tails until then.
And now… On to the Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen Competition!
