Why did you begin competing in pageants?: I had always loved being on the stage with dance so my mom had though it would be a great way to be able to dance more and gain some more self confidence along the way!
What do you hope to gain, other than a title?: I hope to spread awareness of teenage suicide across the state, and to be able to raise money for both the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. I also hope to make friendships through this journey that will last a lifetime!
Why is your platform unique? : My platform is unique because it’s a topic a lot of people don’t like to talk about but it needs to be talked about and brought to light. Suicide is the third highest cause of death in people ages 15-24. Having lost a close friend Kyle to teenage suicide I feel my personal investment to this platform really makes it unique.
How do you watch the Miss America pageant?: I would love to be able to attend Miss America every year if I could afford to! This year I watched the pageant with some other local teens and pre-teens and was featured in a clip on News Channel 9 cheering on Miss New York and Miss Rhode Island. I got to talk a little bit about the Miss America Organization in the story as well.
What has been your favorite appearance or service event as a titleholder?: I really enjoyed attending the Out of the Darkness walk for suicide prevention earlier this fall. My parents and boyfriend walked with me which made the walk go by in no time. Getting to play a small part in the over 55,000 dollars raised for this event was even better. Getting to meet and speak with congressmen John Katko was just the icing on the cake!
What appearance or service event would you like to do most before the end of y
our reign? : I would really like to work with a local sports team and set up a Suicide Prevention awareness night. I feel this would be a great way to spread awareness for my platform to a wide range of people in Central New York.
Which is your favorite phase of competition?: I personally love the talent portion of competition. When I’m on stage dancing the feeling I get every time is an indescribable sense of peace and happiness. Also only getting a minute and a half to showcase everything I’ve got is a great opportunity to challenge and push myself to new bests.
How do you prepare for pageant? : I’m always preparing for my next pageant it feels like which means I try to eat as healthy as I can and make it to the gym 5 times a week all year round. When a pageant is almost here though I have my friends and family help me prep for interview. I also put in extra time at the studio to try and perfect my talent dance and my walks. I also find making a list of everything you need for your pageant is the best way to make sure you’ve got everything you’ll need! :)
What do you plan to do with your experiences after you finish competing or age out of MAO?: I hope to always stay active in my community even after I’m finished competing. I also plan on opening a dance studio one day and would love to try and get some of my students involved with the organization as well. So even when I’m aged out I still hope to be apart of this wonderful organization for many years to come!
