Sweeper Pageant

The Sweeper pageant is often times the last chance to earn a title and compete at Miss NY.

New York currently offers three sweeper titles, awarded at two pageants during a weekend in the Homer, NY. Initially, in 2014, there were only three titles: Miss Southern Tier, Miss Heart of New York, and Miss Liberty. The Sweeper Weekend then shifted and expanded to include three titles: Miss Heart of New York, Miss Miss Crown City, and Miss Niagara Frontier for girls who live anywhere in the state, and Miss Manhattan, Miss Liberty, and Miss Greater New York for girls who live in the Five Boroughs, Westchester, or Long Island. They have also included “County Queens”, where winners choose their own title. Who knows if three more titles will be added during Sweeper Weekend in 2017?

Sweeper titles are slightly different from Official Preliminaries. Some states limit entrants to previous contestants, previous runners up, or girls who have never won. Winners are assigned a mentor, and may partner with another local Org as a “sister queen”. But she does not have the structure and requirements that an official preliminary winner may have. Although these past few Sweeper pageants have awarded scholarships and side awards, in the past Sweeps have only included the crown and sash and would not even announce runners up.
