There is no rest for those dedicated to the pageant world! This weekend marked the second preliminary local of the main pageant season: Miss Finger Lakes! Once again, two titles were given out at the Local 1000 in Corning New York.

Nine beautiful ladies competed for the titles and the chance to represent Upstate New York and the Finger Lake Region at Miss New York. I went into it thinking I knew who would go home a winner, but as the night went on my opinion changed every category!

While volunteering at the Yeah Baby expo with pageant sister and friend Bianca, she mentioned that she would be helping out at the Little Miss Finger Lakes pageant. I had received the email a few weeks back, looking for helpers. However, I was going to walk in a making Strides Against Breast Cancer that day. But when my plans to walk fell through, I shot the director an email asking if he still needed help; he did! So I made the trip down to Corning, NY. The pageant was to find not only Miss Finger Lakes’ Outstanding Teen, but also the Little Royalty girls who would help backstage a hostesses. The entire pageant serves as a fundraiser for the Miss Finger Lakes pageant Scholarship.

Miss Finger Lakes/Upstate New York2013

The Miss Finger Lakes pageant has always been one of my favorites (perhaps because it was my first Miss America local), but this year is possibly better than the last two. Since the Miss Greater Rochester pageant is taking a year off, and there are so few preliminaries for upstate girls, the Moss Finger Lakes pageant decided to not only expand the eligibility from “central New York” to “upstate New York”, but also adopted the Miss Upstate crown. Rayna Reid, Miss Upstate 2012 came to crown her successor, and Caitlin Nolan, Miss Finger Lakes 2012, was of course there to crown her successor.

There was originally 20 girls registered to compete, from as far as Buffalo and Albany. However, this number dropped to 17, as Katelynn Smith won Miss Fulton County and Carrie Sunde won Miss Cambridge, a Miss Massachusetts preliminary. And also one of the girls did not show up. I had competed with many of the girls before, but it was also nice to meet new faces.
