Flashback Friday 6/27

Titleholder Events

*The 2014 local titleholders have been very busy this week, promoting their personal platform and serving the local communities. Hours of dedication go into being a titleholder and representing the region, both before and after the State Pageant. This is not an extensive list of every titleholder’s journey, but rather a peek into their very active reigns. Some events may have been missed or omitted. Please follow each titleholder’s individual journey on their personal blog or fan page. Highlights of the great work done by Local Titleholders this week.

Miss NY 2014

State Competitions

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending my fourth Miss New York pageant, to have the honor of seeing who will represent our Empire State this year in Atlantic City at the Miss America 2015 pageant. Twenty-One girls came to Staten Island to represent their regions, and vie for this prestigious title. Also, fifteen young adults came down to compete for the title of Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen.

Every girl had the opportunity to compete during the preliminary competition on Friday, but only 5 Teen girls and 10 Miss girls were invited back to the stage on Saturday evening. Each girl did wonderfully, and represented her home region well. I had competed with all but six of the girls during my three years competing, and I am incredible proud of them all. I went there with my own ideas of who I wanted to win and who I thought would win, but the results were up to the judges, and when it came to crowning my heart was racing as I sat at the edge of my seat waiting for the results.

Titleholder Tuesday*: Miss Richmond County

Stephanie Accardo is Miss Richmond County 2012. Wait, I mean Miss Richmond County 2014. Well actually, Stephanie was crowned Miss Richmond County in 2012, and then once again in 2014. She is the first girl to win the title twice. And although she served as Miss Brooklyn during 2013, I think it’s safe to say that her heart is where her home is.

Even though Stephanie has competed at Miss New York twice already, she has not made it as a finalist. This year is her 3rd attempt vying for the Miss New York crown, and hopefully the experiences during her first two years will help propel her to her potential.

Titleholder Tuesday: Miss Staten Island

Jamie-Lynn is no newbie to pageants.

In 2012 she snagged the Miss Staten Island title, after seeing it advertised in her high schools list of scholarship opportunities. She competed with the title at Miss New York, and made it as a Top Ten Finalist. She came back the following year as Miss Greater New York. This year, she had the unique opportunity to compete for Miss Staten Island, again. This time, if she won, she would become the first woman to ever hold the title twice. Well guess what; she did it. Round of applause to Miss Staten Island 2014.
